I encourage all of our citizens
to think about volunteerism in a new way. This City
is in need of volunteers to serve in every area
imaginable. There are clubs and organizations here,
all of which are working diligently to benefit the
citizens of this community. Our schools are always
open to mentoring programs and many retired members
of our community can provide such wisdom to share
with the young.
Our senior citizens need young men and women
to participate in their golden years and help them
through the difficult times in life. Sometimes,
just someone to talk to, is a medicine that far
exceeds any the doctor could prescribe. We
have a "senior call line" program going
that provides a lifeline to those who may not have
local contacts and live alone. If you know of someone
who would benefit from being the recipient of a
call daily to check up on their welfare, please
let us know.
Let’s get involved in volunteerism
this year. Some of our senior citizens are working
with our school children in an effort to improve
their reading skills. Many and varied are the opportunities
to serve in Onalaska. If you are interested in serving
your community this year, please call me at City
Hall at 936-646-5376 and ask for the Mayor. Let’s
avail ourselves this year to serve one another.
Who knows, the person you help today, may be serving
you in your time of need tomorrow.
Each of us has an oppo0rtunity to "make a difference",
will you seize that opportunity, or sit back and
later wonder where you might have been if you had
done so?
