The Onalaska Volunteer Fire Department provides friendly and professional assistance in times of emergency. Members responded to over 1200 emergency calls during 2008. These incidents included structure fires, medical emergencies, lake rescues, vehicle accidents, brush fires, hazardous materials incidents, life flight landing assist, and mutual aid to other fire departments.
Fire Department opperating expenses come from voluntary donations from citizens through the BBQ & Auction in April and a letter mail-out in the fall. Funds are also received from the City of Onalaska, from Polk County Commissioners, Texas Forest Service grants and federal grants.
